How to measure a human hair wig length correctly?

When shopping for wigs, you’ll probably notice that they come in various lengths and sizes. Have you ever wondered how they measure to get you the right wig size?

A wig length chart is a visual tool used to help you find the right hair wig for yourself.

The length of a wig is measured from the root to the tip. Curly and wavy hair is measured the same way, but it is stretched to get an accurate measurement.

  1. Assembly of Measurement Instruments:

Elastic Gauge: Ensure the gauge is yielding yet maintains a distinct gradation for precise readings.

  1. Procedure for Measurement:

Step 1: Establish the Origin of Measurement When measuring pre-purchased or custom wigs, start from the middle apex of the wig or the designated starting point as specified by the wig's design.

Step 2: Vertical Drop Method Suspend a lock of the wig hair using a flexible ruler, aligning it vertically. Smooth out any crimps or creases. For longer tresses, seek assistance to ensure accurate measurement.

Step 3: Interpret the Scale Anchor the ruler at the end of the hair strand and carefully note the measurement. This recorded figure represents the length of the wig.

  1. Precautions:

Hair Extension Verification: During the measurement phase, ensure the wig is fully extended and free of any coils or tangles to guarantee accurate results.

Personalized Length Selection: When selecting wig length, consider not only the individual's natural hair length but also personal preferences, facial contour, and hairstyle choices.

Allocation for Trimming: If purchasing a longer wig with the intention to trim, add extra length during the initial measurement to accommodate for subsequent trimming.

  1. References for Length and Hairstyles:

As the hair is straight, the length should be from the top of the head to the bottom of the hair. Curly and wavy wigs are manufactured from straight wigs, so curly and wavy wigs will be 1-2 inches shorter (depending on how deep the curl is) than straight wigs of the same length. If you have long hair, it is always a good idea to order it a little longer.
